Sunny Sophia Zannini

Based on the East Coast, Sunny is a visual artist driven by the purpose of creating art as a conduit for connection. She firmly believes in the inherent human desire and necessity for connection, whether it be with our authentic selves, those in our immediate surroundings, or the very earth that sustains our existence.

In her oil paintings, Sunny draws upon her Old World sensibilities and classical training to anchor her figures in a traditional manner. These familiar depictions serve as a starting point from which she delves into ancient symbolism, providing a glimpse into enigmatic sacred realms. Embracing her appreciation for avant-garde expression and the transformative potential of costumes, Sunny naturally extended her practice to craft contemporary wearable art.

Fascinated by the potent symbolism of facelessness and inspired by ancient ceremonial practices of transcendence using masks, Sunny employs this artistic form to delve into the exploration of her inner hallucinatory states. Initially, these realms were considered off-limits, but through the medium of masks, she has discovered a means to initiate a separation from the ego, offering an opportunity to move and connect with unknown aspects of the self.
